Cold concrete, crawl space walls and the floor over a garage all call for closed cell spray foam insulation. It packs roughly R-6 to R-7 into each inch, stops air outright and stops vapour once two inches are on. Closed cell jobs are fully insured.
The cells in this foam are closed and packed tight, so air and water vapour cannot move through it. It sets hard and adds strength to the wall or roof it is bonded to.
Any surface that is cold and may get wet suits closed cell: poured and block foundations, stone cellar walls, crawl spaces, garage ceilings, steel buildings and roof boards.
